What is Communities Connected?
The theme for Neighbour Day 2021 is Every day is neighbour day. An exciting component of our Neighbour Day 2021 celebration, Communities Connected aims to shine a light on the many [often smaller] community organisations that connect people and help people stay connected, with limited resources and/or support, every day of the year.
In a world of ‘not so great news’, we plan to share good news stories of the inspiring work done by community organisations across Australia.
Drought, bushfires, floods, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the loneliness epidemic – have posed (and continue to pose) huge challenges for our communities. If ever there was any doubt, 2020 confirmed that staying connected with those around you is so important and that connected people connect communities.
The significant role of community organisations in connecting people and their communities – every day – has become very clear. 2020 saw both small and large community organisations step up and support their communities in a myriad of creative ways – and they continue to do so.
We asked for your help to collect as many ‘snapshots of connection’ as possible. We wanted to shine a light on those organisations that are ‘doing good’ AND to share some good news stories while we’re at it. We wanted to acknowledge the many community organisations that are doing important work – creating connections and helping people stay connected – every day. Thank you for helping us do this.
Media release: Celebrating Connected Communities throughout Australia – most outstanding organisations and recipients of prizes announced 4 May 2021.
Nominations – Closed 21 March 2021
We invited nominations of community organisations*, either by a representative of the community organisation or by an individual who knows the organisation. We asked you to briefly share the story of what and how the organisation connects its community AND the results and positive impacts of that organisation’s work.
The word limits were VERY tight! However, we were seeking as many ‘good news snapshots’ as possible for this initiative.
Connected people connect communities.
*Note: Community organisations nominated must be in Australia, be not for profit, and have an ABN (or community groups auspiced by an organisation with an ABN.)
